 Radiation processing industry has made great progress in
the past 30 years.
 137 gamma radiation facilities
design source loading capacity: 170 million curie
actual source loading: about 70 million curie
 Annual sources demand of China: 11 million Ci
Annual output of domestic cobalt-60 sources: 7 million Ci

The output value of radiation crosslinking wire and cable
has more than RMB20 billion.
Radiation Processing Service
(1) The main radiation service:

Food radiation:
Irradiated food was 200 thousand tons per year, almost half of
irradiated food in the world, 100% increase from year 2003 (100
thousand tons).

Sterilization of healthcare products:
Irradiation sterilization accounted for 20% of the whole healthcare
sterilization products.
(2) Contribution to GDP
RMB25 billion in 2015 with Gamma ray and EB,
297% increase from year 2003 (6.3 billion)

(CIRC)
 CIRC is a specialized company in CNNC nuclear technology
application industry. It has the whole industry chain of
products and services with the core of isotope products
and radiation processing.
 Chinese government qualified three companies for
radiation facility design. CIRC owned two of them.
 CIRC has seven gamma radiation facilities.

 Industry consolidation will be a trend and It should be based
on the integration of industry group and industry chain.
 The world economy slowdown and radiation processing
industry will be affected, but not too much.
 The people on healthy living requirements will continue to
increase.
 The growth rate of industrial irradiation will continue to rise.

New areas of application of irradiation technology will
continue to develop and practice.

 Improvement of science and technology
 New products and new technology emerge
 Technological upgrading of existing products

 Gamma facilities developed fast in recent years. About 10-
15 new facilities were constructed annually.
 Gamma facilities have completed overall layout, thus the
new construction of gamma facilities will reduce.
 During the thirteenth five-year plan period, the construction
of new facilities will decrease. Annual new 2-3 facilities will
be expected.

Co-60 Sources Price
 Cobalt source prices are impacted by the market and
determined by supply and demand.
 Three suppliers: Canada, Russia and China
 The new gamma facilities reduced and the loading demand
of existing facilities has not increased significantly in
recent years.
 So the price of Co-60 Sources will be stable.
Compare Gamma Facility and EB (X-ray)
 Electron beam irradiation apparatus and gamma facilitiy are
different; each has advantages and disadvantages.
 Electron beams and X-rays can not completely replace the
cobalt-60 source, but the quantities of electron beams will
be much larger than gamma facilities.
 If the efficiency of X-ray device improve significantly,
prospects will be good in the future.
Compare Gamma Facility and EB (X-ray)
 Gamma facilities will not be eliminated as a whole. Unsafe
and inefficient small facilities will shutdown.
 The overall amount of the gamma facilities will not increase
too much, but the efficiency of the radiation industry will be
improved.
 Gamma facilities and EB will be long-term coexistence on
the Chinese market.
