• 2011 - CCS named a near-term Flagship Programme in
the National Climate Change Response White Paper;
• 2011 - An Inter-Departmental Task Team on CCS
established in Pretoria; and
• 4 May 2012 - Cabinet endorsement of the CCS

English, IsiNdebele and Other;
• Unemployment, inequality and poverty remain the major
economic challenges;
• Only 2% of the population has tertiary education;
• More than half of the population survive on less than 46 USD pm;
• 68% of the community has no access to electricity.

• There is a considerable need for housing;

• Located in the CACADU District, Eastern Cape
• Population - 55 000
• Spoken languages – IsiXhosa,(49%),Afrikaans (45%) English (6%)
• Unemployment - 49% and majority is dependent on social
grants/ Pensions;
• Employment is derived from retailers, tourism, agriculture and
community services (EPWP).
• Eco-tourism and agriculture are two economic drivers; and
• 31% of the GDP comes from agriculture
