Names of Chinese
T
About China
Chinese name is normally with 3 Chinese characters, and someone 2
or 4.
Take the big guy Yao Ming as an example,
Yao is his family name, Ming is his given name.
Any difference? Yes, your family name is the last one, but in China it’s
the first one.
So this big guy is Mr Yao, not Mr Ming. If you are buddy-buddy, call
him Ming.
Simple? Yes, for the example it is, and it’s applied to most of Chinese
people.

Main Three Engines
T
Economics
The Main 3 engines drive China forward:
-Investment: China will keep on spending money and
push economy forward as before
-Consumption: Chinese government is endeavoring for
economic restructuring, and the target is to improve its
share to 50 – 60% of GDP, but it will take a hard effort
-Export: Becoming harder and harder, because of the
slowdown situation over the world.

Problems
Economics
Problems: China was too much relied on investment and export. Today China is
still an investment oriented society, lack of consumption is the key problem.
-Lack of demand: domestic and overseas
-Overcapacity: Does that mean industrialization has almost finished?
-High housing price: Central government level is trying to make it stabilized, but will it
work?
-Increased labor cost: bring pressures to medium/small-sized companies
-Poor social security system: high educational cost, lack of medical and retirement
insurances etc …..dare not to spend money
-Policy oriented market: lack of efficiency

Measures
Economics
How to solve the problems: Maybe you have a different view
when you think in your culture:
-To continue active fiscal policy and stable monetary policy
-Economic restructuring: Expand domestic consumption, Green GDP and CreativeOriented
-Support medium / small-sized companies, give them more financing support and
decrease tax rate
-Give more support to the key state projects
-Enhance reforming on education, hospital sectors
-Control speculation on real estate

Eating
Live in China
Food culture is an important part of China’s traditional culture.
I love to try different flavors, but sorry I’m still not a food expert, here just copy you
an official introduction.
In China, different geography, climate, resources, produce and food habits combine to form
characteristic local cuisines, namely, the "four flavors" and "eight regional cuisines“.
The "four flavors" refer to those of Shandong, Sichuan, Guangdong and Huai Yang
(Yangzhou).
The "eight regional cuisines" refer to the local modifications of the "four flavors", including
Shandong Cuisine, Sichuan Cuisine, Hunan Cuisine, Guangdong Cuisine, Fujian Cuisine,
Jiangsu Cuisine, Zhejiang Cuisine and Anhui Cuisine.
From the dishes served at family meals to lavish banquets, local famous foods are too
numerous to list, and the delicious foods of all kinds of taste reflect the highly developed
tradition of food culture and the characteristic regional cultures of China.
What’s the difference between them? Try them when you travel to China, and
better with a local guy to guide you.

Eating
Live in China
You may be curious to know if any special table manners you have to pay attention to.
Generally no, just be relaxed.
Really NO? Oh, yes, here are some:
In China, food is usually shared. Everyone has a place set with an empty saucer, chopsticks, and
often a spoon. Dishes and soup are set in the middle for all to share, while rice or noodles etc. are
eaten out of individual bowls.
Where to sit
Large groups sit at round tables of 10 seats or more. The place of honor for the chief guest is
opposite the door or entrance and the chief host sits next to the chief guest. Alternate host with
guest until the least important person sits with back to the door.
Things to do and not to do:
• Talk to your guests. If you cannot think of anything proper, talk about the food.
• Make sure the guests get enough to eat. But do not force them to eat.
• Serve people with a common spoon or chopsticks.
• Leave the bones in your saucer.
• Do not stand your chopsticks in the rice.

Travelling
Live in China
If you visit China with a travel agency, that’s fine. If a business trip, believe your
partner will help. I just want to remind you about the language if you only come to
China from time to time.
Anyhow you have lots of options to travel within China:
-Bus and subway: for sure within cities only
-Taxi: easy to get a taxi when you travel within a town/city
- Flight
CRH: 300km/h in average
- High Speed Train: That’s what we highly recommend if the trip is within 5 hours.
How far it means for 5 hours by high speed train? It’s the distance from Beijing to
Shanghai, around 1300km. Why? Located in downtown, no delay…. After years of
development, high speed railway network is now connecting with more an more cities.
