2.1 Deposition of air pollutants
• Data for plots in kg/ha for the year 2000
• Not aggregated for countries
• Bulk deposition (open field measurements close to the
forest plots)
• Information on deposition of S (S_SO4), N (N_NH4 and
N_NO3), and base cations (Ca, Na, Cl)

2.2 Soil condition
• 8 soil types (cambisols, podzols, arenosols,
regosols, luvisols, leptosols, histosols, gley),
others, all plots
• Plot sampling conducted during 1990-1995
• Information on CEC*, Base saturation, Organic C,
C/N, pH Classes (%)
• Information available for 23 countries (histosols
only for 4 countries)
*CEC – cation exchange capacity

2.2 Soil condition
Countries’ comments, concerns
• Plot-based results could not be totally comparable between
countries
• Soil layer depth should be specified more precisely
(change in soil properties as a function of sampling depth
can be very fast in the uppermost soil layers)
• Unexplainable differences between the data from ICPForests/JRC and national surveys of that period
2.3 Defoliation
•
•
•
•
Groups: all species, broadleaves and conifers
Species: Fagus, Picea, Pinus, Quercus
Reference years 1990, 2000, 2005
% of trees in defoliation classes 2, 3, 4
(moderately or severely defoliated or dead)
• For groups – defoliation classes 2, 3+4
• Tree species wise values are calculated by ICP
Forests, based on the 16*16 km grid

2.3 Defoliation
Comments, concerns
• Differences in the level of damage across national
borders may be at least partly due to differences in
standards used
• Different grid densities used may cause the results
to be not coherent while comparing species and
total tables, different years or countries
6.2 Contribution of forest sector to GDP
• Contribution of ISIC/NACE 02.0 (Forestry, logging and related
services) to GDP
• Contribution of ISIC/NACE 20 ff (Manufacture of wood and
articles in wood) to GDP
• Contribution of ISIC/NACE 21 ff (Manufacture of paper and
paper products) to GDP

6.2 Contribution of forest sector to GDP
Comments, concerns
• National statistics do not always correspond to
NACE groups and can not be presented in the
same format
• “Publishing and printing“ was included under
NACE 21, as separating NACE 21 and 22 in
National Accounts is not available at Eurostat
(data may exist in the Member States)
6.3 Net revenue
• Factor Income – ISIC/NACE 02.0 (Forestry,
logging and related services)
• Entrepreneurial Income – ISIC/NACE 02.0
(Forestry, logging and related services)

6.5 Forest sector workforce
Comments, concerns
• National reports have different age or professional
status categories used, not comparable with
Eurostat data
• National data often presented in number of
employed persons and not FTE
• NACE categories do not fully covered by national
statistics
• Data available from national sample studies on
workforce can not be representative on country
level
4.6. Genetic resources
• Report is being prepared by "Bioversity
International“ (former IPGRI and INIBAP)
through the EUFORGEN correspondents
network
4.6. Landscape pattern
• Report is being prepared as a case-study by
the JRC in collaboration with EEA
6.4. Expenditures for services
• Data collected through questionnaire sent to the
MCPFE national correspondents
• 12 countries provided the data (our of 27 replies
received)
• Report is being prepared as a case-study by the
University of Hamburg
6.6. Occupational safety and health
• No data available from Eurostat or ILO in the
format requested
• Data provided by MCPFE national correspondents
together with IDP enquiry
• 19 countries provided the data (out of 28 replies
received)
Thank you!
