Meet the physical and
psychological needs of
people
• When people have worked for some
time, they’ll get tired, so they need a
rest, thus leisure time provide such a
good and necessary opportunity for
them to relax and refresh, so that
they can plunge into their work again
with fresh mind and energy.
Improve oneself
• Leisure means you can do whatever you like.
Some may spend their time on studying or
learning new skills; some will bask in their
personal interests: photographing, sports,
DIY, gardening, ect.; others would join
voluntary organizations to help who need
their help…whatever people do, they are sure
to get something, new ideas, new knowledge,
new friends, in any amount or any form.
Leisure is new blood to person’s life, just
enjoy it.
More communications and
understandings between
people
• Many people may complain that work has
taken up all time with their families, friends
or new people. Now leisure time is definitely
a good chance to do that. It’s believed that
when you have more interactions with
others, your communications will be more
and understanding each other better. And
alike many activities, it needs time.
Promote the development
of economy and society
• It is the biggest contribution of leisure.
Have a little look, you’ll find that whatever
people do in their daily life they have to
pay, and in leisure time, they spend more,
because everyone, whether the consumers
or businessmen, thinks it deserves. And
the percentage of income from leisure in
the whole GDP is increasing. Almost every
government regards leisure as an
important way to stimulate economy.

Negative points

Interference with work and life
Bad habits, violence and crime
Damage the environment
Tensions
Interference with work
and life
• Some people find it hard to go back to
regular routines after a holiday, whether
tired out or unwilling to work and still
enjoying pleasures in leisure. And when
weekends or holidays come, there are so
many people going around, the street, the
market, the tourist spots, anywhere you go
you’ll be trapped, like a helpless animal.
During weekends and holidays nothing is
normal, office closed, shops shut, and when
you stay at home, you feel boredom and
should go out, but when you’re out, you feel
frustrated and should stay at home!
Bad habits, violence and
crime
• Leisure will foster laziness, vanity, violence and
crime. When people lapse into these bad habits or
behavior, they will do harm to others and the
society. For example, when a man absorbs in
gambling, he would skimps his work and his family.
Often there exists domestic violence in this kind of
family. When people surf on line or talked to others
in the pubs, they are easily influenced or cheated,
and then they spoil their job or study, commit to
crime, and even lose their lives. Not for once we
see mad football, singers or films fans quarrel,
fight each other, bleed or die. And we often
connect alcohol, cigarettes and drugs with a lot of
leisure activities, and we can tell stimulated by
these people will not only harm themselves but also
others.
Pollute the environment
and cause tension
• Tourism can bring people a large
amount of money, but it can also
damage the environment and disturb
local people’s life, thus tension
between the local people and tourists
would be caused.
