Key Component #2: The Master of Education candidate is committed to
all students and their learning.
•Developmental Characteristics of Students: Writing Portfolios in sequential order with
student reflection and teacher reviews, Quarterly Data Mining (tracking and reviewing data of
each student on AimsWeb, 4Sight, PSSA projections, Lexia Reading Program, Fastt Math, and
Education City)
•Teaching to Individual Learning Abilities: Weekly Stations (use of multiple intelligences),
Menus (when students are finished early), RAFTs, Individual Technology Goals and Schedules
(according to area of need), small, flexible group reading and math
•Selection of Resources to Meet Range of Students’ Needs: Minibooks (Advanced, On level,
Below Level for each reading story), Math resources (Advanced, On level, Reteach),
Manipulatives used for math (optional on assessments), Brain Teasers, Leveled Computer
Programs/Goals
•Expectations for Learning and Achievement: PAWS (Positive Attitude, Attentiveness, Work
Hard, Support Others) Class Theme, Rubrics for all subject areas, verbal reminders of
expectations in each facet of the classroom, Fix/Sign/Return notes on unacceptable work
•Positive Classroom Environment: Incentive Jar (for positive comments from outsiders, for
exceptional behavior and work), Token Towers (individuals who need additional incentive,
announcements/awards when filled), Student PAWS placed on bulletin board (for being a good
role model for others, decided upon by peers)
