Polish biotechnology in numbers
The market for biotechnology which can be used in
pharmaceuticals and medicine (“red biotechnology”)
is growing in Poland. Biotechnological firms are
working hard on new products, the sales of which
will have a substantial impact on the rate of further
growth of the industry over the next years.
In 2010, despite the difficult economic situation,
sales of market players grew (e.g. Bioton – 75%,
Mabion – more than 200%), which should lead to
the improvement of the entire market (30% year-onyear increase in 2011). This is a consequence of
the development of innovative projects
conducted in recent years and a result of EU
financial support

Polish biotechnology sector development
The availability of EU funds in Poland has made it
possible to support the development of biotech
investments.
According to the Ministry of Economy, between
2007 and 2013 companies and scientific institutions
in the medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological
industries will implement projects worth around
€150m (The Innovative Economy Operational
Program).
The fact that Polish biotech sector are just beginning to develop
intensively is best illustrated by the number of new innovative ventures
carried out by companies such as: Celther, Celon Pharma, Mabion,
Euroimplant, Biocontract.
Currently PAIiIZ is working with leading world company on the
significant project of plasma fractionation in Poland.
