The Opportunity
Insolvency Services Group (“ISG”) as assignee for the benefit of creditors of Big Media, Inc. has engaged
IP Mercantile as its exclusive agent in connection with marketing and sale of Big Media Technology, a system
and method for delivering customized advertisements within interactive communication systems and associated
Linux, Apache, MySQL, PhP (LAMP) software implementation.
Big Media, Inc. has made an assignment of its assets for the benefit of its creditors. As such, all of its assets
have be assigned and transferred to an assignee, ISG. An assignment for the benefit of creditors is a method of
liquidation of the assets of insolvent companies similar to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case, but there is no court
involvement.
ISG, as assignee, is responsible for the liquidation of the assets and will be the seller of the intellectual property
described herein. The assignee has likewise provided the manner in which the intellectual property is to be sold
which is to be by competitive bidding and a form of agreement to be entered into with the successful buyer."
2
Software Assets
A Linux, Apache, MySQL, PhP (LAMP) implementation was created in the 1996-2001 timeframe.
Generally, the software functionality can be described as follows:
1. A user visits a website and triggers a script
2. The script causes the server to check for the existence of a cookie
3. If no cookie, the user is served a non-user registration ad
(Note that the above steps could be conducted on a thin server located at a website’s facility to
reduce latency, load on the main server, costs, etc.)
1. If cookie, the user’s account is then queried in the user database
2. Users’ accounts are prepopulated with ads based on their registration info
3. Each ad has a counter which counts how many times it has been shown up to a pre-determined
maximum and counter which shows if it has been clicked
4. Every time a user triggers his/her account, the next ad in sequence is shown.
5. Every time an ad is shown, a record is generated with time, website id, ad id, and action taken.
6. User, advertiser, and website accounts are then updated from the records and billed or paid
appropriately

System and Method for Delivering Customized Advertisements
within Interactive Communication Systems
ABSTRACT
The present invention is a system and method for delivering customized electronic advertisements in an
interactive communication system. The customized advertisements are selected based on consumer
profiles and are then integrated with offerings maintained by different content providers. The preferred
interactive communication system interconnects multiple consumer computers, multiple content
provider computers and multiple Internet provider computers with an advertisement provider
computer. Whenever a consumer directs one of the consumer computers to access an offering existing in
one of the content provider computers, an advertising request is sent to the advertisement provider
computer. Upon receiving the advertising request, the advertising provider computer generates a custom
advertisement based on the consumer's profile. The custom advertisement is then combined with the
offering from the content provider computer and displayed to the consumer. The advertisement provider
computer also credits a consumer account, a content provider account and an internet provider account
each time a consumer views a custom advertisement. Furthermore, the advertisement provider
computer tracks consumer responses to the customized advertisements.
NOVELTY
A registration module allows a consumer to register consumer demographic information and content
provider to register content provider information. Based on the consumer information, advertising
module selects an advertisement and transfers to consumer. During transfer, an accounting database unit
access the database to bill the advertiser and credit content provider.
ADVANTAGE
Advertisements viewed by consumers are monitored, and relevant internet providers are paid based on
number of advertisements viewed, thereby reducing consumers’ access fees. If consumers wish to obtain
additional information about advertised products or services, consumers simply use a mouse to select an
embedded hyper-link in the custom advertisement and are immediately directed to advertiser’s website.

NOVELTY
An advertising module selects an advertisement corresponding to the consumer and content provider
demographic information and transfers advertisement to the consumer in response to the consumer
accessing data offered by a content provider. An accounting database calculates bill and provides a credit
to the content provider in response to transfer of advertisement to the consumer.
ADVANTAGE
On-line advertisement services are provided with reduced transmission time by monitoring the
advertisements consumers view. Internet providers can then use relevant advertising revenue to reduce
consumer access fees.
