The Effects of Resveratrol and
Alcohol on Short Term Memory in
Drosophila Melanogaster
By Paul Mascali
Need
Alcohol
A drug found
through the
fermentation of
fruits
Alcohol deactivates
the genes protein
kinase and sirtuin 1
Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a chemical
that is found in plants
Resveratrol activates the
protein kinase and sirituin

Resveratrol was inserted
in the drosophila food at

and 1000 mM
Resveratrol was
dissolved at a 1:1000 to

Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to see
how alcohol and resveratrol effects the
short term memory in Drosophila
Melanogaster
Hypothesis
Null Hypothesis: There will be no significant
difference between the control group, the
group exposed to alcohol, and the group
exposed to resveratrol.
Alternative Hypothesis: The groups that are
exposed to resveratrol will show more of an
increase in short term memory than the control
and the groups exposed to alcohol
