IR transmitter : OLCT IR
OLCT IR: onshore and
offshore installations
• You encounter some of the most severe
constraints and infrared technology is very
often the only solution.
OLCT IR
• The extra-tough OLCT IR transmitter detector with
infrared sensor for top performance provides top-end
gas flammable detection reliability :
• insensible to poisoning ( silicon vapours,
hydrogen sulphide, chlorinated products …)
• resistant to aggressive substances
• long-life, highly-resistant sensor
• low maintenance and non-intrusive
calibration...
OLCT IR
• The transmitter OLCT IR
is designed for detection of
flammable gas :
• hydrocarbons ,
• methane,propane/butane as
standard
• and others on request…
• Note : functional in inert
gas atmosphere .
OLCT IR : concept
• OLCT IR concept is
based on
measurement of
infrared radiation
passing through a
volume of gas.
• Working IR pulsed source
• Reference IR pulsed source.
OLCT IR
Reference wave-length
• Since most gases have unique
absorption spectra, they can
easily be identified by proper
selection of an infrared wavelength at which absorption is
measured
• l ’OLCT IR = two standard
versions :
• OLCT IR CH4
• OLCT IR HC .

OLCT IR compared with cataltytic
cells : major advantages
• High gas concentration does not saturate the transmitted
signal
• insensitive to poisoning
• low dispersion of response to various gases
• presence of oxygen is not required
• humidity ( without condensation) has no influence on accuracy
• the gas flow rate has no influence on accuracy .
Other ADVANTAGES
 Proven high reliability and long-term stability
 no calibration(1) and low maintenance required during
equipment lifetime (10 to 15 years)
 Automatic self test
 Immunity to poisonning from H2S, silicone and other agents
(1)
OLCT IR has a continous self-test function
Proven leading-edge technology
• « low maintenance » efficiency: electronics of
the OLCT IR guarantee extreme accuracy and
constant stability ...
• The answer to spurious alarms: an ability to
ignore external substances that trigger false
alarms ...
• non -intrusive calibration (magnetic switch)
OLCT IR : maintenance
• The OLCT IR has been designed to requiere a
minimum of maintenance :
• it ’s only necessary to inspect visually that the
weather protection is not clogged in heavily
contaminated areas
• and be sure that the optical surfaces are clean*.
* use an equal-part mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water.
Two configurations for adapting to
your site :
• Housing « E » =
standalone version , fitted
with a terminal
compartment and a cable
gland.
• Housing « M25 » = freefitting version , fitted with
a threading and 3-wire
output for electrical
connections.
DIMENSIONS
WEIGHT: 2,3 to 3,1 kgs
INSTALLATION : indications
– The location of each detector should preferably be determined at the
system design stage :
– where gas leakage is most likely to occur
– It should be considered whether the gas in question is heavier or lighter
than air ?
– The detector can be used with the weather protection (réf : 6124976)
– The detector should not be mounted where it could be exposed to water
drenching
INSTALLATION : orientation
– L’OLCT IR must be
mounted so that the flow
direction indicator
must point upwards.
INSTALLATION : information
– Housing “ E ” must be
mounted so that the
longitudinal axis of OLCT
IR is horizontal.
– This
will
prevent
accumulation of water and
dust on the optics
– for this purpose, mounting
bracket is avaible : réf :
