Tube Polar Distribution
Polar Distribution Graph
LED technology directs light in one
direction. This is more efficient than
traditional fluorescent lamps with 360°
light distribution.
The LED Tubes emit in a 240° wide
distribution. The small percentage of up
light improves fixture aesthetics.

LED Ready® Ballasts
• LED Ready® ballasts are tested for compatibility with the
EVERLINE LED Tubes.
– The compatibility ensures that the ballast thermal and
electrical operation are within allowable operating
parameters.
• LED Lamps are operated within limits for rated life and
performance.
• The LED Ready® emblem will appear on the Universal
ballast label.

LED Replacement Drivers
As the industry is starting to see the need for field replacement,
having the right replacement driver is critical.
Drivers must be specifically selected with the precise current and
power rating for optimal lighting and color performance.
The EVERLINE family of drivers provides the broadest replacement
coverage in the industry.
|
12
What is a Driver?
LED Replacement Drivers
• LED Drivers have a similar function as fluorescent ballasts.
–
–
–
–
Regulate output voltage or current for the LED modules.
Enclosed in a case with wiring connections suitable for fixture assembly.
An LED driver is the power supply for an LED lighting system.
The LED Driver “drives” the current for the LED Modules/Arrays.
• The input of the driver is connected to the
power line and the output is connected to the LEDs.

• Common performance attributes
–
Efficiency, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) & Power Factor
• Drivers and LED Modules must be compatible.
–
–
Both must be Constant Voltage or Constant Current
Ratings must match ie: Output current w/ LED Module
|
13
Constant Voltage
LED Replacement Drivers
• CV Drivers provide a constant DC voltage Output, typically 12V or 24V.
• CV LED Module is designed to run at a specified voltage and incorporates a
current regulator to control the current through the LED.
• Driver ratings also include a maximum loading of power and current.
• Constant Voltage LED Modules connect in parallel.
• Each module incorporates current control for self-regulation.

Constant Current
LED Replacement Drivers
• Driver provides a constant current to the connected LED modules.
• Constant Current LED Modules are designed to operate with a maximum
specified current.
• Output voltage will vary based the LED modules connected.
• Drivers will have a specified output voltage range
• Single or multiple modules may be connected based on the system design.
• LEDs may be configured with series/parallel operation if the current is evenly
divided between the LEDs.
|
15
Constant Current
• Driver Output Ratings include output current and voltage range.
• The LED modules must operate within the specified voltage range.
– Voltage is determined by the voltage drop across the combined series of LEDs.
Example:
(Assume module voltage of 12V for this)

Driver Output:
• 1.05A
• 48V (12V x 4)
• 50.4W ( 1.05A x 48V)
Same Driver
could be used
Driver Output:
• 1.05A
• 24V (12V x 2)
• 25.2W ( 1.05A x 24V)
The same driver operates at different voltage and
power levels while providing a constant current.

Largest Installed Base
LED Replacement Drivers
Among the first drivers to be used in fixtures were 150W Drivers. 150W Drivers are ideal
replacements for first generation outdoor drivers. EVERLINE’s 150W Constant Current Drivers
are available in both UNV (120V-277V), and UNV (347V-480V) voltages, and with a variety of
output current options. Universal’s EVERLINE give you a similar case styles to driver already
installed in the product base. Universal offers the largest installed base of Drivers:
– For Outdoor Drivers
• 150W Constant Current drivers
• Multiple current options (530mA, 700mA, 1050mA, 1400mA)
• UNV (120V – 277V) and HRV (347V – 480V)
– For Sign Drivers
• 12V and 24V Constant Voltage drivers
• A-Can & Q-Can options
Universal also offers simple cross reference support.
|
18
Compact & Linear Drivers
LED Replacement Drivers
• Compact LED Drivers
– EVERLINE uses CFL form factor
– Commonly used with non-standard currents
– A variety of form factors exist in the market place
•
CFL / Butter Stick / Hockey Puck
• Linear LED Drivers
– EVERLINE uses T5 style form factor
– Commonly used with non-standard currents

Case Sizes
LED Replacement Drivers
• All Drivers listed in the LED Selector Guide are available
for distribution channel.
• Drivers are available in a variety of different case sizes.
|
24
Cross Reference Guidelines
To determine the correct driver, you will need to:
1.
Identify if the driver is Constant Voltage or Constant Current.
• Constant current list output voltage range and rated output Current
• Constant Voltage list output voltage (ie. 12V or 24V)
2.
Identify the Input Voltage.
• Typically 120V, 277V or 347V
3.
4.
Identify the case style.
Identify if dimming is used and if so, the type of dimming.
For Constant Current Drivers:
1.
2.
3.
Identify the rated output current.
Identify max rated output power.
For the Driver selection:
– Use the same or lower rated current
•
Ex: If 770mA us 750mA
– Use the same or higher rated power
– Select the compatible case style
– Use dimming if necessary.
For Constant Voltage Drivers:
1.
2.
3.
Identify Output Voltage.
Identify max output power or current.
For the Driver selection:
– Use the same rated output voltage.
– Use the same or higher rated power.
– Select the compatible case style.
Call Universal at 1-800-225-5278 for cross reference assistance.
