HB HE LV system
HB and HE will use the same type of power supply, while the LV cables will be different (see next pages)
The main candidate as power supply is the module A3100HBP under development by CAEN.
The specs are:
- Magnetic field and radiation tolerant (at least as A3100)
- One Channel, individually controlled and protected (as A3100)
- No “Remote Sensing” input required
- VMax and IMax set by trimmer
- Interlock capability
- Screw Lock output connectors
- Power 560 W / channel (as A3100)
- Max Output voltage across the plus and minus output connectors = 14V
- The module must be able to work with the minus input at -2V from earth
- VOUT programmable from 8V to 14V, Max Output current 40A.
If we use the CAEN A3100HBP, it will serve two RBX’s. This is done on purpose, for possible future upgrade («Phase2») : if a
future RBX will need much more power, a A3100HBP will serve a single RBX.
In principle we could use power supplies from a different manufacturer, if we can obtain a substantial reduction in price.

The cables in HE will remain as in the existing system.
Particularly, the cables are laid in pairs, this is due to the two voltages (V1 and V2) of the existing system.
The cable type is “2-Conductor 8 AWG RADOX® 125”, from Champlain Cable Corp [https://cms-docdb.cern.ch/cgibin/DocDB/ShowDocument?docid=3906
The cable length is different from RBX to RBX.
The min length is 18 meters, the max length is 34 meters [https://cms-docdb.cern.ch/cgi-bin/DocDB/ShowDocument?docid=12240].
The resistance of the cables is reported on :

The HB cables will be modified in the following manner:
1) inside the vactank we will keep a piece of the existing cables (same as HE,
https://cms-docdb.cern.ch/cgi-bin/DocDB/ShowDocument?docid=3906 ), with length ~5
meters.
2) outside the vactank the cables will be 50 mm2 section as
https://cms-docdb.cern.ch/cgi-bin/DocDB/ShowDocument?docid=11519
The min length is XX meters, the max length is YY meters [https://cmsdocdb.cern.ch/cgi-bin/DocDB/ShowDocument?docid=12240].
