Writing a Procedure
Preparing to write a procedure
 Before beginning the write the procedure the specifications for the
instrument are required – these can be found from the following
sources :
 Instrument manufacturers handbook
 Manufacturers web site
 Catalogues such as R.S., Farnell or other instrument resellers

Step 3
SECTION 1 : CONTINUITY RESISTANCE
 Select the required resistance values using the tick boxes
 Enter the % of Reading and ± Absolute values from the specifications.
Note : Many instruments often specify a number of counts or digits. To convert
this into an absolute value first determine the value of the last digit (resolution).
For example the absolute value for the CM500 with a spec. of ± 2 digits and a
display resolution 0.1 ohms, is 2x0.1R = 0.2R.

SECTION 2 : CONTINUITY TEST CURRENT
 Select the maximum current output from the CM500 as per the
specifications (250mA)

SECTION 3 : INSULATION RESISTANCE
 Select the required resistance values using the tick boxes
 Enter the % of Reading and ± Absolute values from the specifications.
Note : Many instruments often specify a number of counts or digits. To convert
this into an absolute value first determine the value of the last digit (resolution).
