UPS configuration
Advantages - Output Isolation Transformer
No DC component in output (galvanic isolation by transformer)
Transformer less UPS – DC components are controlled
electronically
Lower DC voltage – less number of batteries per string (30-32
blocks)
Less cost for same type of batteries and back up time
Transformer less UPS – More battery blocks, connections etc
Better short circuit capability in battery mode (bypass not available)
Transformer based UPS – 2.7 X Nominal current Ph-Ph
- 4 X Nominal current Ph-N / G
Transformer less UPS – 2.2 X Nominal current
No neutral current back to the mains in case of unbalanced load in Double
conversion mode
Better management of unbalanced load.
A Zig-Zag transformer will share an unbalanced load on the three inverter bridges
Transformer less UPS – inverter legs may see unbalanced load ( different leg
operates at different load % - Components stress level are different) improves
battery lifetime through less ripple
Better management of non linear load (low level harmonics are short-circuited)
