6382 total miles of electric transmission lines in
FPL system (1321 miles in Miami-Dade/Broward
counties)
On site inspection twice per year
Monitor primarily for potential “grow in” species
and for fire fuel
Melaleuca, Australian Pine, Sawgrass and Cattails
are predominant species that are monitored
Prioritization
Based on threat level
I.e. Voltage of circuit, type of threat,
funding, etc.
Methods
Rolling of Sawgrass
Herbicide application
Top and treat with herbicide
Prescribed burn
Mowing
Tracking
Perform bi-annual patrols on circuits to
evaluate effectiveness of treatment(s)
Investigate all relays to determine root cause
and possible mitigation
Annual report of all work types performed
