Theme 1: Film and Moral Values
Identify and express the values, moral challenges, human conflicts
within a film.
Experiences
Take part in a group discussion on moral/ethical questions raised
by a film
Recognize good or bad choices represented in the actions of
characters
Learners experience films made in different moral environments
that are informed by different sets of values
Learners create films that express moral dilemmas and conflicts,
and which respond to moral challenges presented by other films
Knowledge
To know the limitations of stereotypes
To know about different cultural taboos
Skills
To identify and question, and reflect on and analyse moral
dilemmas and issues
To be able to speak, write, make film responses to moral
questions raised in a particular film
Understanding How films construct moral positions, characters and situations
through visual and other codes
How different cultures deal with moral issues in different ways
To understand the (moral) context in which the film is made and
also the context in which the audience views the film
Understand how to deploy the creative resources of film in ways
that open up dialogue, and present ambiguity
Learners understand their own work in its relationship to their
understanding of themselves, their immediate context and the
wider world.
Outcomes
Learners become confident in engaging with moral challenges and
differences, as represented in and through film
Learners become confident in choosing adventurously, and moving
beyond their film ‘comfort zone’.
