Enemies and defense
Arctic wolfs are the musk ox’s main enemy.
Humans are their enemies too.
If a wolf gets it teeth locked into a musk ox it rolls
on its side and tries to kill it. If predators threaten
the musk ox they form a circle around the babies.
Habitat

The Musk ox lives in the arctic tundra.
The tundra biome is muddy, grassy, wet and
sunny.
Babies
Babies
A calf is usually born in April or June.
The calves get nursed until they’re around 10 to 18 months.
The cows have one baby ever two years.
The calf is under its mother for about four months.
A baby looks like a grown musk ox smaller and without horns.
Inuit uses
The fur is valuable to Inuit knitters to make scarves, hats, vests and
other clothes.
Food
The musk ox feeds on sedges, grasses, and willows.
When its winter they eat mostly wood plants.
There diet is grass, sedges, lichen and leaves.
Life Cycle
They’re about 2,500 and 3,000 in Alaska.
They’re close to 60,000 in Nunavut.
The Inuit name for musk ox is
“Oomingmak. They’re related to goats and sheep.
Characteristics
The musk ox are big and furry animals. They weigh around 900 to 1,000 pounds.
They stay in packs of 10 to 20. There horns are big , brown and they curve down.
There body length is 6-8 ft long and 3-5 ft tall. They have a two layers of fur.
They give off a smell when excited. When they lie down the snow does not melt.
