WATER CYCLE
SCIENCE
The water cycle (or the
hydrologic cycle) is the
continuous movement of water
between the earth’s surface and
the troposphere.
Water Cycle!!
What makes the water cycle happen?
Evaporation/Transpiration
Condensation
Precipitation
Runoff
Collection
Evaporation is the process where liquid
changes into invisible water vapor.
(gas)
Heat from sunlight makes evaporation
happen.
A special type of evaporation is
transpiration, where water
vapor is released into the air by
leaves of plants.
Condensation: process where water
vapor (gas) changes into liquid water.
Happens as water vapor cools.
Clouds are evidence of condensation.
Precipitation: occurs when water or a
form of ice falls from the atmosphere
to Earth’s surface.
Forms when water droplets in clouds
grow and become too heavy to stay up
in the atmosphere.
Runoff: occurs when gravity moves water
downhill.
Collection: occurs when water collects in an
area. Lakes, puddles, and oceans are
examples.
