Seasons in Shanghai
Shanghai is located on
the east coast of China. It
is the home of our Olympic
hero, Liu Xiang. It has
four distinct seasons.
1.
In spring, the weather is warm. The
average temperature is 17°C. The
weather changes quickly during the day.
It can be windy and rainy in the morning
but warmer and sunny in the afternoon.
It is cold at night, and in the early
morning we sometimes see mist or fog.
Shanghai people love spring because the
weather is warm and we can see flowers
blossoming everywhere.
2.
In Shanghai, it is hot, humid and
rainy in summer. The highest temperature
is 33°C. Some people wear shorts and Tshirts. Many people enjoy walking along the
Huangpu River or swimming in pools.
Sometimes, there are typhoons and heavy
rain. People need to wear raincoats and
carry umbrellas on those days.
3.
Autumn is a pleasant season. It is
cooler and drier than summer and the
days are sunny. The leaves on the trees
start to change colour and people go to
the countryside to see the beauty of
nature. But sometimes, it is windy and
people need to wear windbreakers when
they go outside.
4.
Then comes winter. It is the coldest
and driest season. The average temperature
is 8°C. Sometimes it even drops to below
0°C with strong winds and snow. On these
days, Shanghai people must wear thick
clothes, hats, mittens and
scarves. They even wear
cotton face masks to keep
themselves warm. But when
it snows, children enjoy
throwing snowballs at each
other.

This is Shanghai, the city that is
so proud of our 110-metre hurdles
gold medalist, Liu Xiang.

changes a lot within the year, but Liu
Xiang does not have a problem facing
these weather changes. Do you know
why?
