What are bees?
-Bees are flying insects which collect nectar
from the pollen that is in wild flowers
(dandelion, sunflower ect.)
- Bees are not rare insects, you can find
them in your very own garden.
- Bees have a specific colour of black and
yellow
- The scientific name for a bee is Apis
Mellifera.
- The Apis Mellifera (bee) has a stinger on
its backside which when feels harmed by
either another insect or human leaves the
stinger in the human/insect with the poison
inside which can be harmful to people with
allergic reactions
What is an ant?
-Ants are insects that work for the queen of their
colony so they can survive
-There are different types of ants, like driver ants
which mate with the queen and produce eggs.
- Ants are found everywhere!!, but mainly on the
ground or on walls outside.
-Every time you find an ant, you would most likely
find it in a line, they are probably trying to find food
for their colony so they can survive
-Ants mainly crave sugar and other sweet products,
metaphorically speaking “they have a sweet tooth”.
-Ants are one of the tiniest insects in the world, yet
they are one of the most common insects which you
can find basically anywhere!
What is a wasp?
-A wasp is an insect quite like the bee.
- It lives in a hive and has a queen wasp which
certain wasp mate with to produce eggs
- it has a pretty basic anatomy
- a wasps egg has a particular shape like all of
the other insects apart of the hymenoptera
family.
- GENERAL INFO
WEIGHT – 1g
LIFE SPAN – 40 Days
NUMBER OF YOUNG – 25 max.
All the insects we have just shown you have one BIG thing in
common…they all are apart of the one family, Hymenoptera.
The Hymenoptera family all have a leader of their colony
(queen), they each have specific names and jobs and they all will
do anything to keep the colony safe.
Although ants don’t live in hives, they live in holes underground.
The hymenoptera family are a very commonly seen family yet
very interesting and throughout our PowerPoint presentation, it
will get even more interesting with facts, animations and more.
What do ants, bees and wasps live off ?
Bees fly from flower to flower collecting all
the little particles of pollen in the middle on
their feet they then fly back to the hive
which then they produce a honey-like
substance which they use to feed the young
and other bees.
Ants live off other peoples food such as jams,
lollies and other sweet treats. THAT’S
WHY I HATE PICNICS!

Wasps have many different eating habbits.
One of them is that they feast on the honeydew other insects
leave behind after from eating produced pollen
(now honey).
