WHAT IS A BEAVER?



Beavers are mammals, which means they are
warm blooded, have teeth, bones and fur.
Beavers are vegetarians, they eat trees, leaves
and shrubs.
They are the largest rodent on the planet. Other
rodents are rats and mice.

America
Canada
Parts of Europe*

years.
WHAT DOES A BEAVER DO?



Beavers build dams. To do this, they cut down
trees and plants.
Beavers are top engineers. They make the dams
very strong.
They build lodges which is a beaver house
where the beavers and their families live.
WHAT DO THEY LOOK
LIKE?




They are furry and have
waterproof coats.
Their back feet are
webbed.
Also they have flat tails
which helps them to
swim well.
They have very sharp
front teeth so that they
can chop down trees
and branches.
BEAVER FACTS!








They can live on the land and in the water.
They can go under water for up to 15 minutes.
Beavers can live for 10-15 years.
Their babies are called kits and their bigger
children are called yearlings.
They live in large family groups.
They come out at dawn and dusk.
They do not hibernate.
A large beaver can weigh almost as much as
me!
