Corn - Facts
• Did you know corn is
America’s #1 field crop?
• Corn can grow between 4
to 12 feet tall and is a
member of the “grass”
family.
• Corn can be eaten right off
the cob, or processed into
cereals, peanut butter,
snack foods, and ethanol.
Corn – Fun Facts
• The fruit of the corn is the
“kernel”.
• The “ear” is a collection of
kernels on the cob.
• There are always an even
number of rows of
kernels.

• The ear is wrapped in
leaves called the “husk.”
• The flowers that emerge
from the top of the husk
are called, “silks.”
• An ear of corn averages
800 kernels in 16 rows.
• A pound of corn has 1300
kernels.

sources of dietary fiber
• Contains good levels of Bcomplex vitamins
• Low in saturated fat,
cholesterol, and sodium
