Strong cold jetstream hitting warm humid air
from Gulf of Mexico
up to 72 unconfirmed tornadoes, estimated to
be at least in the F-3 category (winds ranging
from 255 km/h to 330 km/h) => possibly F-5
storm warnings preceded twisters in the most
hard-hit areas (Alabama => 46 tornado warnings
were issued in an 11 1/2-hour period)
