• What does a tornado look like?
• What is a tornado?
• A tornado is a violent, rotating column of air stretching
from a cloud to the ground.
• Weather conditions needed to form tornadoes:
• Warm, humid air mass meets cold, dry air mass
• Cold air moves under the warm air, forcing it to rise
• What do we call a tornado that forms over water?
• Waterspouts

• Strong winds and flying debris
• Tornado Watch: tornadoes are possible in your area
• Tornado Warning: tornado has been seen in the sky or on
radar
Safety: basement, bathroom, under heavy furniture, away from

– Large rotating tropical weather system
• How are they formed?
– When wind traveling in two different directions
meet
