Turtles
Some of the water turtles live in sea and some in freshwater.
*A sea turtle cannot retract its limbs and head under its shell
as a land turtle can.
*Flippers are adapted for swimming.
*fore flippers are long and paddle like.
*Like other turtles, sea turtles lack teeth. Jaw shape varies
among species. Each species has a jaw shape adapted for its
diet.
*The large, bony shell provides protection from predation and
abrasion.
*It have large upper eyelids that provide protection for their
eyes.
* The top of the shell is called CARAPACE. The lower side is
called PLASTRON. On the shell are bony plates called SCUTES.

rivers, lakes, wetlands and sometimes in brackish water.
*Unlike other reptiles they have a four-chambered heart and
diaphragm

*Crocodiles heads are V-shaped.
*The front limbs have 5 finger and the back limbs have 4
finger.
*23 species.

•### example: northern water snake.
* Body laterally compressed, paddle- like tail helps in swimming.
* There are no limbs in the body.
* The eyes with no eyelid. Eyes and nostrils places higher on the
head to allow them to see without raising their head from water.
* It’ s tongue splits and it has conic shape teeth.
