mountains ( oldest

North America)
2. Located west of
Coastal plain
extending from
eastern Canada to
western Alabama:
includes the piedmont
CANADIAN SHIELD
Facts:
1. Wrapped around Hudson
Bay in a horseshoe shape
2. Hills worn by erosion and
hundreds of lakes carved
by glaciers
INTERIOR LOWLANDS
Facts:
1. Rolling
flatlands
with many
rivers broad
river valleys
and grassy
hills
2. Located west of
the Appalachian
mountains and
east of the Great
Plains
GREAT PLAINS
Facts:
1. Flat land that
gradually
increases
elevation
westward
grasslands
2. Located west of
Interior lowlands
and east of the
Rocky Mountains.
BASIN AND RANGE

1. Area of varying elevations
containing isolated mountain
ranges and Death Valley, the
lowest point in North America
2. Located west of Rocky
Mountain and east of the
Sierra Nevadas and the
Cascades
COASTAL RANGE
Facts:
1. Rugged mountains along the
Pacific Coast that stretch from
California to Canada.
2. Contains fertile valleys.
ROCKY MOUNTAINS
Facts:
1. Located west of the Great
Plains and east the Basin and
Range
2. Rugged Mountains stretching
from Alaska almost to
Mexico: high elevations
3. Contains the continental
divide, which determines the
directional flow of rivers
