A new Chapter in 984 Ladder Logic
 “The road is long….With many a winding turn”
– Said the 70’s band “The Hollies”
 In Modicon time that is Thirty Five years to date
 Evolution has shaped not only the world, but the things we do too!
 PLC Programming is no exception
 Now is the time for the latest “Turn” in that road
 We welcome ProWORX 32….The

Future of 984 Ladder Logic
3
Chapter 1 – The Project
Why?
 The need develop a new version of the successful ProWORX Nxt
984 development tool as a successor.
 To create a platform that facilitates migration and embraces modern
PC operating systems and hardware
 Provide a vehicle to move 984 LL technology forward and surpass
our competitor’s offering, well into the future.
When?…….

Chapter 4 - Operating Systems & Hardware
 Operating Systems supported
• Windows 98
• Windows Nt 4.0 (SP5 required)
• Windows 2000
• Windows ME
• Windows XP
In all cases Microsoft Internet
Explorer 5.0 is required as a minimum

Chapter 4 - Operating Systems & Hardware
Minimum PC Hardware requirements





Pentium 2 class PC running at 200mHz (or better)
128 MB ram
200 MB of available HDD space
CD-ROM drive
Colour SVGA video support
Optional hardware
 Ethernet NIC (Network Interface Card) for TCP/IP communication
 PCI85, SA85, or PCMCIA Modbus Plus adapter
 Modbus Serial cable

Chapter 5 – Client Server. What is it?
 The ProWORX 32 program is a client/server application.
 The Server is repository and can contain all projects and their
associated files. The server has a number of project management
utilities
 The Client can receive all project specific information from the Server
based upon permissions
 The Server can reside on the same computer as the client, or be
completely separated from the client, residing on a network.
 Supports both TCP/IP and Modbus Plus communication modes using
your existing network environment.

Chapter 5.1 – The Server
What does it do?
 The Server keeps the projects
 Users “Check Out” a project
 “Check out” under permission
 The Server CONTROLS!
 The Server monitors use
 The Server creates an Audit trail
 The Server keeps a “Log Book”
In a later version (1.1)
 Schedule control
 Back up/restore
 Project Compare

Chapter 5.2 – The Server





Users have permissions set
Administrator sets permission
Permission includes “Rights”
Users belong to “Groups”
Users then “Check out” projects
to the client
 User functionality is then guided
by the applied permissions
 Actions are recorded in the Audit
Trail.
 Users are prompted to comment
in respect of the session
completed.

Chapter 5.3 – The Server – Compare!
Change Management – What is out there
 SecureWORX – Third party - old, Dos based, incompatible with
ProWORX 32
 FX Manager – Third party - functionally similar, though no Modbus+
support and incompatible with ProWORX 32
 MDT – Third party - No support for ProWORX 32
Simply stated
 ProWORX 32 Server is integrated to the Client offering the user the
features of those products listed above but from a single supplier

Chapter 6 – The Client
What does it do?
 The same thing previous ProWORX versions did – Edit and create
and configure your PLC projects
 This version sees a new look and feel to the operator interface
 More tools are available to the user, visually and ergonomically
 The interface is almost completely customizable
 Project management and visibility is more apparent
Lets go take a look

Chapter 7 – The Client User Interface
We see here a new
look, a new layout.
Best of all, the items
that make up the
User interface are new
We have employed
Active “X” controls and
components in order to
Provide performance.
We have used Microsoft
components such as the
Navigation tree, making
the project structure
easier to get around.
Tool tips, helping you
become familiar with
the environment. All of
this is designed to
improve the ergonomics

Chapter 8.1 – System Benefits
Client method
 Direct unconditional interaction between PC and PLC*
 Local communications
*Dependant on local security settings
Client/Server method
 Controlled access to project databases
 Central repository for projects
 Common safe project versions
 Record keeping
 Security
 Bridge communications (Modbus/MB+ to TCP/IP or in reverse
through the Server)*
*Server must have both interface adapters installed

Q. I am an Nxt User, how do I migrate to 32?
A. If your CSP is active, then you can purchase the “Legacy Product
Upgrade”
Q. I have ProWORX/ProWORX Plus/Modsoft, how do I migrate to 32?
A. If your CSP is active, then you can purchase the “Legacy Product
Upgrade”
Q. I have a competitor product (e.g. Fastrack) how do I migrate to 32?
A. Simply prove ownership of the offending product to your Schneider
Electric sales representative and purchase the “Legacy Product
Upgrade”
Q. I have a multi-user Nxt/ProWORX/Plus/Modsoft/etc, how do I migrate
to 32?
A. Choose the standard multi-user legacy product closest to your
required number of users, then add an amount of incremental seats
to make up the balance

Chapter 14 – Positioning
 Concept – Alternative product offering IEC 6 1131-3 compliance
• Not a ProWORX32 competitor
• Complementary offer of 984 Ladder logic editor
 Qualify your user requirements
• Is the user already using 984 and do they wish to remain so?
• Is the user supporting a range of older CPU’s
– If so……Choose ProWORX 32
• Is the user undertaking a new project
• Will the application benefit from IEC over 984
• Are there no constraints regarding similarity to existing installations
– If true……Choose Concept
