Communication and Outreach Committee:
Objectives and Tasks 2006-2007

To Market the Consortium

Explore options for increasing media coverage of the Consortium
such as through member organizations and other mechanisms

Explore development of a quarterly newsletter to disseminate to
member organizations and others interested in public health data
standards issues

Develop an email distribution list to distribute the quarterly
newsletter

Seek to obtain feedback on the newsletter

Implement changes to the newsletter based on the feedback
received and improve this mechanism of communication

To Increase Membership in the Consortium

Create and send messages to current members soliciting each
member organization to recommend one new member/organization

Seek to obtain additional representation from current member
organizations in the various PHDSC Committees

Create and send messages to the list of recommended
members/organizations providing them with information about the
PHDSC and solicit their participation as members

Conduct phone solicitations to follow up on the message
distribution

Evaluate effectiveness of solicitation campaign and explore other
options to increase membership

• To Market and Increase Visits to the Consortium’s
Web-Based Resource Center
• Seek to obtain email listing of schools of health
information management; schools of public health; and
CIOs of state public health agencies
• Create and send a push-type message to the lists to:
• Announce the “new and improved” PHDSC website
• Announce updates or additions to the website
• Evaluate effectiveness of push-type messages on
website visits

Duties
 Day-to-day maintenance and operation of the WRC
 Updates and designs Web pages
 Performs diagnostic checks and repairs as needed
 Assist with advanced technical design and
development efforts
 Update and maintain search lists
 Limited graphics development
 Interact with WRC Committee and PHDSC at large
 Address questions, comments and feedback from
WRC users and direct to appropriate resources
 Report to the PHDSC Executive Director

Salary – Part-time
 Approximately $20,000 - $25,000/year
