After the death of Chinggis Khan, his
children and grandchildren continued
to conquer a vast empire.
The Mongols conquered a vast empire
from the Pacific Ocean to the Black Sea.
Kublai Khan was Chinggis Khan’s
grandson. He established a Mongol
dynasty in China.
He called his
dynasty the
Yuan dynasty.
Kublai Khan
adopted many
Chinese
customs.
He showed
respect
to the
Chinese
people
and their
culture.
However, he did not let Chinese scholars
function as high government officials. He
feared they might rebel.
Kublai Khan did many good things
for China. He built a new capital city
in Beijing. Beijing is still the capital
of China today.
Many roads and highways were built by
the Mongols in China.
Mongol soldiers protected merchants.
As travel became safer, it increased.
