• Stravinsky originated from a musical family,
although his training wasn’t of much reflecting
his family's desire that he follow studies in law. a
student at the university in St. Petersburg, he met
a man by the name of Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov
and studied with the much more experienced
composer. His music greatly caught the attention
of Serge Diaghilev, the director of the Ballets
Russes in Paris. Stravinsky was commissioned to
write a ballet for the theater called Firebird. This
was almost immediately followed by Petrushka
and The Rite of Spring.
• Born in June 17, 1882. Oranienbaum, Russia
• Died in April 6, 1971. New York, NY
• He was 89 years of age
Said to be the greatest composer of the 20th
century.

composer
• Igor Stravinsky is revolutionary based on the
riotous theme of his ballet The Rite of Spring.
Stravinskys career suggests more evolution.
Perhaps no other composer in this century has
written in such a mass variety of styles andit is
the unique mind of Stravinsky that his musical
personality is noticablein each of these styles.
• best known for breaking new musical ground,
because of the riot which occurred at the
showing of 'The Rite of Spring‘ in 1913
