Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. Mercury is about 36 million miles (38 million kilometers)away from
the sun.
ROTATION AND ITS AXIS
Mercury’s egg-shaped orbit takes it around the sun in 88 days . It rotates in 59 days.
SIZE
Mercury is 3,031 miles wide. Pluto is the only planet that is smaller than Mercury. Sunscorched Mercury is only slightly larger than Earth’s moon.
TEMPERATURE
The temperature at day is 279 degrees and at night it is below zero.
ATMOSPHERE
Mercury has almost no atmosphere .Mercury’s gravity is too weak to keep the gases around
the planet .Mercury is visible just before sunrise or just after sunset. Mercury has very
little atmosphere to stop impacts , and it is covered with craters.
APPEARANCE
Mercury is one of the four inner planets with rocky surfaces.
