SUMMARY
Your Hook grabs the readers attention.
The transition is needed to smoothly slide from
the hook into the facts of the paper.
Your thesis is most important, it is the backbone
of the entire paper.
The topic sentence of each paragraph sets the
tone for that particular paragraph.
After your topic sentence of that paragraph, you
should list your organized ideas that fall under
that particular topic sentence.
Restate your thesis, using different words.
Use a transition for the opposite reason as last
time.
Your summary should tie together all your
information. The summary can be the “end” of your
hook.
Thesis Statement
In a persuasive research paper, the thesis
statement must address the opposition
and introduce the three main points of
your paper.

For example, if the topic of the paper is
“artificial intelligence”, then the thesis would
read:
“Although artificial intelligence may benefit society,
science should not strive further in the study
because (1)_____, (2)_____, and/or (3)_____.”
Addressing the Cons
The first part of the thesis:

“Although artificial intelligence may benefit
society…”
is the part that address the opposition.
This section of the thesis statement is the
section that sets the tone for the entire first
body paragraph of your paper.
The Three Main Points
“…science should not strive any further in the study
because (1)____, (2)____, and/or (3)____.”
The next section of your thesis (above) is the section
that should be the skeleton of the rest of your body
paragraphs.
The topic sentence of the second paragraph for this
particular A.I. paper should be:
“One reason artificial intelligence can result in negative
consequences is (1)_______.”
(Where the (1) in the thesis is the exact same word as the (1) in
the topic sentence).
Repeat your Steps
“…science should not strive any further in the
study because (1)____, (2)____, and/or
(3)____.”
Now, repeat what you did for the second
paragraph’s topic sentence for the third
paragraph…

“Another reason the development of A.I. should cease
is (2)____.”
(Where (2) in the topic sentence is the exact same word as
the (2) in the thesis statement).
Repeat this for the topic sentence in paragraph
four.
The Conclusion
Your conclusion should be your
introduction flipped.
Restate your thesis using different words.
Use a transition sentence or phrase to
slide from the paper back into your hook,
or into an overall summary.
Finally…
Look over to see that your
paper is in the proper format.
Check for spelling errors.
Check for punctuation errors,
run-ons, and fragments.
