MOUNTAINS!
WHAT YEAR DID YOUR PARK BECOME A
NATIONAL PARK AND WHY?

It became a national park in 1915, because it had
beautiful nature but still held many cultural
treasures including ancient trails, game drives,
cattle ranches, and lodges.
HOW WAS THE PARKED FORMED?
•
According to this theory, the surface of the Earth
is made up of a series of plates, each of which
move relative to the others. At one time, all the
continents were joined into one large land mass
known as Pangea. Slowly, this supercontinent
began to break apart and the continents began to
drift. The plates eventually began to collide with
one and Periods of mountain was built. This is
how the Rocky Mountains were built.
WHAT TYPES OF ROCKS CAN BE FOUND IN
YOUR PARK?

You can find volcanic rocks sedimentary rock
Igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks in the
Rocky Mountains.
WHAT SPECIAL LAND FORMS CAN BE
FOUND IN YOUR NATIONAL PARK?

The Canadian part of the rocky mountains
include the Mackenzie and Selwyn mountains of
the Yukon and northwest territories and the bow
river. Also a variety of animals such as bighorn
sheep bears deer's and more.
HOW IS YOUR PARK CURRENTLY
CHANGING?
The temperature is currently changing. Natural
habitats are currently coming in to the rocky
mountains along with plants.
WHAT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES ARE
AFFECTING YOUR PARK?
Serious problems have arisen as a result of timber
harvesting, grazing, oil exploration, mining, and
reservoir operations in the Rockies'. Logging and
oil exploration have been responsible for
accelerated slope erosion, both from the
operations themselves.
HOW IS TECHNOLOGY USED TO HELP
PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN YOUR PARK?
Technology is used to discover and understand the
impacts of climate change land use change and
invasive species.
