1. Alternative urban structure and climate change
in regional planning
> to describe and design alternative models of urban and rural
structure on how to adjust climate change
> to develop comprehensive approach which ”localises” the climate
change information and integrates several aspects of climate
change at the local level

ACTIVITIES:
- Partners visualize the land use in their area (e.g. location of jobs,
residential areas, shopping centres, services and logistic centres)
present situation objectives and alternatives of land use
- Greenhouse gas emissions and costs of different spatial options
are evaluated.
- Common criteria for sustainable development analysis are agreed
on and partners evaluate commonly the sustainable development of
spatial planning in the target areas.
- Information and assessment of sustainability of the land use,
residential areas, transport systems, energy economics (energy
efficiency and sufficiency of buildings and housing) is compiled in the
target areas.
- “Top ten list”: The most important and effective actions in terms of
influencing climate change in spatial planning, transport systems, energy

economics is evaluated in the target areas.

2. Implementation cases and development activities
> to implement cross-sectoral cases in themes of

4) agriculture
ACTIVITIES:
Presentation of the themes and case-studies, e.g..
• Housing and energy -study
• Calculation of emissions caused by traffic and optimization-study of traffic
systems
• Housing preferences and sustainable residential areas, ”eco-efficiency” of
housing
• Regional public transport plan / smaller studies for the transport plan
• Agriculture

The aims of the implemtation cases
A) To influence to adaptation to climate change by supporting the integration of urban
structure and traffic planning
• Implementing a transportation system plan or partial studies supporting them
•Opportunities for implementing transportation methods supporting sustainable development
B) To develop transportation systems for industry and commerce
•promoting the implementation of an environmentally-friendly transport and logistics
systems for the needs of industry and commerce
•Optimization studies, traffic emissions
C) Promote sustainable development in housing and energy solutions
• Effects of climate change on housing
•Promoting energy-efficient buildings, construction and community development
•Surveying the most high-risk residential areas in terms of the impact of climate change,
including adaptation to climate change
•Alternative heating systems
