Securing the future
More people – more CO2
In the year 2050, 9.2 billion people will inhabit the earth
according to current predictions. Today, more than two-thirds
of the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change are
already being caused by human energy consumption.
Unless action is taken, energy-induced CO2 emissions will
rise to around 85 gigatons by the year 2050 and climate
change will continue unabated.

Green mobility:
Urban transport solutions
Metro vehicles
The components and materials of the Oslo Metro are
94.7 percent recyclable. And its consistent
lightweight construction and regenerative braking
system means it also uses 30 percent less energy
than predecessor vehicles. And the reduced weight
also reduces operating and maintenance costs.
Low-floor trams
The Avenio is not only the most modern lowfloor tram
today, but with its 500+ passenger capacity and its
innovative Sitras HES hybrid energy storage system
it also sets important environmental standards.
Avenio saves 30 percent less energy and offers the
option of traveling up to 2.5 kilometers without an
overhead contact line.

Interurban transport solutions
Airport rail links
Rail connections to and from airports are a reliable
and attractive alternative to traveling by private car
or taxi, at the same time reducing pollution in urban
centers. And if, for example as in Bangkok, you can
check your bags in the city, the system is
especially convenient for passengers - thanks to an
innovative logistics system from Siemens.
Regional multiple-unit trains
The Desiro ML EMU regional multiple-unit train
uses the equivalent of only 0.2 liters of gasoline per
person per 100 kilometers at 100 percent
passenger load. The dieseldriven Desiro ML DMU
is also characterized by its high efficiency: Its
diesel-electric drive, reduces consumption by up to
40 percent compared to conventional diesel-
powered vehicles.

Interurban transport solutions
High-performance locomotives
Vectron, the modern locomotive platform for
transporting freight and passengers, is particularly
impressive in terms of environmental compatibility: it
reduces pollution and noise and is built from 98
percent recyclable materials and components. And
its regenerative braking system saves up to 25
percent more energy.
High-speed trains
The Velaro runs on the equivalent of 0.33 liters of
gasoline per person per 100 kilometers at 100
percent passenger load. In addition, it uses
environmentally friendly materials. This makes
Velaro not only the world’s fastest series production
trainset, but also the most eco-friendly.
