Curriculum
Grade 6 ELA is divided into 3
units:
– Courage
– Coming of Age
– Heroes
Unit 1-Courage
Develop an
understanding of
historical fiction, while
making thematic
connections to literary
and nonfiction texts in
which an individual
deals with internal and
external conflicts.
Coming of Age
Develop an
understanding of literary
nonfiction, while
responding to texts in
which individuals
search for individual
identity while
addressing loss of
innocence and
experiencing growth
through life’s
experiences.
Heroes
Students explore
themes and characters
in mythology and
legends and how they
relate to a society’s
culture. In addition,
students connect their
reading to the myth’s
country of origin
through informational
text, music, and art.
Homework
Homework is posted each and every day
on the board. Students are responsible for
copying assignments into their planners.
Homework is due the next day unless
otherwise directed.
