Other EID Challenges
First challenge
• Outbreaks of H5N1
since 2003 to date
have caused 501
cases with 297
fatalities in 15
countries. Five Asian
countries (Indonesia,
Thailand, Vietnam,
China, Cambodia)
contribute 72% case
in the world.
Second challenge
• H1N1 Influenza
pandemic, as of 1
August 2010, there
have been 214
countries reported
laboratory-confirmed
cases including over
18,449 deaths
worldwide.
