seeing a radioactive shipment.
• A DGU member will take charge of the shipment.
• The University’s Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) must be
notified upon arrival of the shipment.
•Delivery cannot be completed until the RSO approves the
shipment for delivery.
Only employees with radiology training can
handle radioactive shipments.
• UMS radiology trained employees are:
• Barbara Dobson
• Seth Becker
• Jared Johnson
• Joel Pennie
• Ryan Watts
University Mailing Services (UMS) recognizes that
shipments leave commerce when they received
and signed for from the carrier. Further UMS
recognizes that shipments enter commerce when
they are presented to a carrier for shipment.
49CFR may not require some of this training
because the handling occurs outside of
commerce. Out of concern for its employees,
UMS requires this training whether the shipment
is in or out of commerce.
