Problems 1 - 4: Choose the
correct answer
1. 100% of the class answered this correctly!
Some students did not show their work :( and lost points.
2. 100% of the class answered this correctly!
Some students did not show their work :( and lost points.
3. 100% of the class answered this correctly!
4. 100% of the class answered this correctly!
Well done!!
This shows you know how to divide,
determine remainders, and identify the
correct answer!!!
Problems 5 - 7 - read the
directions!!!
THINK how to model 56  4.
5. Model the DIVISOR! Which number in the
problem is the divisor? (4)
6. What is the dividend? (56)
a. There should be 56 blocks. (F)
b. Count the blocks. They are grouped by 10’s,
then 6 are left over.
7. What does the quotient represent?
a. The number of blocks in each group. (B)
Problems 8 & 9
8. The check step for division is always
multiplication. If there is a remainder,
addition will be used too. (J)
a. Divisor (7) X Quotient (8) + remainder (6)
= 62
9. Divisor (7) X Quotient (12) + Remainder (3)
= 87
CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU ANSWER
THE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at the little slip
of paper.
• Back to cause and effect.
• What happens if you fail to show your work?
(Repeat after me:)
• Mrs. Snyder, I WILL LOSE TWO POINTS.
• What happens if you fail to circle
your answer? (Repeat after me:)
• Mrs. Snyder, I WILL LOSE ONE POINT!
• WHY DIDN’T YOU CHECK THESE RULES?
Problems 10 - 13
10. 22 r 2 (Show work, and circle the answer.)
11. 15 r 5 (Show work, and circle the answer.)
12. 11 r 6 (Show work, and circle the answer.)
13. 9 r 4 (Show work, and circle the answer.)
Calculate the number of points you lost because
you failed to follow directions.
How much higher would your grade have been?
What will you do differently next time?
Problems 14 - 16
What do the directions tell you to do?
First, divide mentally.
Second, WRITE THE BASIC DIVISION
FACT!
Third, WRITE THE QUOTIENT!
14. 54  9  6; 600
15. 56  8  7; 7000
16. 28  7  4; 40
Problems 17 & 18
17. an = 3
18. What information is needed?
a. Where do you start? How much money does she
have to spend? ($39.00)
b. Start with subtraction. If she bought one
sweatshirt, how much money would be left over?
($39.00 - $15.00 = $24.00)
c. Look at $24.00. Do you see a basic math fact?
d. $24.00  2 = $12.00
e. Read the question. What is it asking you??
f. How many t-shirts? (2) How many sweatshirts?
(1)
Problem 19
19. Whose book was more expensive?
a) How much more did Jovanna spend?
i.
$2.25
b) Subtract $2.25 from $12.25. How much
money is left? ($10.00)
c) Divide $10.00 by 2 = $5.00. (Both girls
spent $5.00).
d) $5.00 + 2.25 = $7.25 (Jovanna)
e) Anne spent $5.00.
Problem 20
General comments about word problems.
Look for the words “left over.” “Left over” is a
synonym for “remainder.”
Look for the words “equal groups.”
“Equal groups” = divisor.
Solve, 97 - 6 = 91.
What multiplication math facts have a product
that ends in 1? (7 X 3 = 21, for example)
Guess and check. Use break apart, 21 + 70.
7 groups of 13, or 13 groups of 7
Meet in small groups
• Sean, Yianna, Garrett, William, Kaitlyn,
Kelly, Alec, and Cole will meet with Mrs.
Snyder.
• Isabella, Jarred, Talia, Tarin, Martin,
Vivian, Jiwon, Sue, Luke, Sophie, and
Alexandra will meet together to work on
an independent activity.
