What is the probability of
the following events
happening and why?
• It snowing tomorrow?
• You winning the lottery this weekend?
• You watching T.V tonight?
• It being your 30th birthday tomorrow?
Can you think of any
events which are
equally likely to
happen?
How about…..?
• If you toss a coin you have an equal
chance of getting a head or a tail.
• If a baby is born it has an equal chance
of being a boy or a girl.
• If you roll a dice you have an equal
chance of getting the number 1, 2, 3, 4,
5 or 6!
1. In your book draw a circle with a radius of 5cm.
2. Use a protractor to divide the circle into 6 equal
sections.
3. Use a ruler to join the sections together where they
meet the edge of the circle.
4. Rub out the remaining circle lines.
You should have a spinner!
• Now write the numbers 1, 2 or 3 in the sections
of your spinner.
• Write 5 statements about your spinner that
show that you can use the language of
probability or express probability as a fraction.
• Use the language of probability.
• To express probability as a fraction.
• Swap books with your partner. Write
a comment about how well you think
they’ve met today’s learning
objective. Explain why you think this.
