“verbo”?
(What is a “verb”?)
Los verbos:
*A “verb” represents an action / means “to do
something”… (“Buscar,” “cocinar,” and
“caminar” are all verbs.)
“Buscar” = “to look for”
“Cocinar” = “to cook”
“Caminar” = “to walk”
Los verbos:
*In Spanish there are 3 types of verbs:
1) Verbs that end with “AR” (“Buscar”)
2) Verbs that end with “ER” (“Correr”)
3) Verbs that end with “IR” (“Escribir”)
*The largest number of Spanish verbs end in
“AR”

“infinitive”?)
Los infinitivos:
*“Buscar,” “cocinar,” and “caminar” are also
“infinitives.” “Infinitive” is a fancy way of
saying the whole (*not changed) form of the
verb.
“Buscar” = “to look for”
“Cocinar” = “to cook”
“Caminar” = “to walk”

“conjugation”?)
Las conjugaciones:
*“Conjugating” is a fancy way of saying “changing”
a verb. When we conjugate the verb, we change
it’s ending to indicate the different people that
do the action. We need to change the infinitive
to make a conjugation.
Ejemplos:
“Practicar is an infinitive and means “to practice”
“Practico” is a conjugation and means “I practice”
Today we are going to practice verb forms…!!!
Actividad: “Conjugación o Infinitivo”
Las instrucciones: If you see an “Infinitive,”
circle “Infinitive” next to the verb/verbs form. If
you see a “Conjugation,” circle “Conjugation”
next to the verb/verb form.
Why do we need to conjugate?
• The infinitive “Cocinar” means “to cook.”
• If you want to say “I cook,” you need to
change “cocinar” by conjugating.
• “I cook” would be “Yo cocino” in Spanish.
“Cocino” is a conjugation, or a changed form
of the verb.
• If you do not conjugate, you will be speaking
like “a cave man”! For instance, if you say “Yo
cocinar,” you are basically saying, “I to cook.”
“Yo cocinar, tú practicar, nosotros
caminar…”
“I to cook, you to practice, we to
walk…”
“Yo cocino, tú practicas, nosotros
caminamos…!”
“I cook, you practice, we walk…!”
How to conjugate an “AR” verb in the
present tense…
You can think of changing verbs (“conjugating”) like
following a recipe’s steps…
“Cocinar” means “to cook.” If we want to say “I cook,”
we must change the verb.
To change an “ar” verb
STEP 1: Chop off the “ar”: Take away the
“ar” from the end of the verb infinitive.
Practicar – ar = Practic
TO TALK ABOUT MYSELF- “Yo” (I)
STEP 2: Add the appropriate conjugation
ending.
*For “Yo,” or “I,” add an “o”
Practic + o = Practico
* Yo practico = “I practice” … (“Yo” means “I” in
Spanish!)
(Remember that “Yo” has an “o” just like
the conjugation (cocino) has an “o”.)
TO TALK TO YOU- “Tú” (You)
STEP 2: Add the appropriate conjugation
ending.
*For “Tú,” or “you,” add “as”
Practic + as = Practicas
* Tú practicas = “You practice” … (“Tú” means
“you” in Spanish!)
(Remember that “Tú” has a “u” just like
“you” has a “u”.)
TO TALK ABOUT US- “Nosotros” /
“Nosotras” (We)
STEP 2: Add the appropriate conjugation
ending.
*For “Nosotros / nosotras,” or “we,” add
“amos”
Practic + amos = Practicamos
* Nosotros / nosotras practicamos = “We
practice” … (“Nosotros / nosotras” means
“we” in Spanish!)
(“Nosotras” is used for girls only.
“Nosotros” is used for guys or a mix
of guys and girls.)
