Past Simple
 It´s used to talk about events in the past.

It´s often used to tell a story …
Example:
She walked into the room
and looked around.
There was a knock on the
door.
She opened it and saw …..
Affirmative form
For regular verbs
we add -ed
to the infinitive form of the verb.
For example:

I work ed
She walk ed
in the park.

They laugh ed
at the joke.


Form
For irregular verbs
There are no rules.
Each irregular verb has its own
past simple, and these can only
be learnt by heart.
Infinitive
eat
Past
ate
saw
go
went
see
leave
left
Negative form
We form the negative of the Past Simple with
didn´t (did not) + the infinitive without ‘to’
Affirmative
Negative
She ate pears.
She didn´t eat grapes.
He played soccer.
He didn´t play basketball.
They went to a wedding
party.
They didn´t go to a birthday
party.
