Changing Speech.
There are two kinds of narration
Narration
(Speech)
1. Direct Narration
2. Indirect Narration

Example:
Direct Speech:
Rahim said to me, “I hate you.”
Indirect Speech:
Rahim said to me that he hated me.

How to change
Direct speech to Indirect speech
1. Read the Reported Speech and identify the types of
sentence.
2. Reporting verb will change according to the types of
sentence.
3. Inverted Comma (“__”) will be omitted.
4. A suitable connective will be used.
5. Subject and object of the reported speech will be
changed.
6. Tense/verb will be changed.
7. Some words will be changed.

Changing speech of assertive sentences
1. Reporting verb ‘said’ remains
unchanged. You may use tell/told
instead.
2. As a connector ‘that’ should be used in
place of comma and inverted commas.
3. Subject, verb and object should be
changed accordingly.
