Sentence Fragments are parts of sentences that do not
express a complete thought. Either the subject or predicate
is missing.

Types of Sentences
• Simple sentences have a subject and a verb and
express a complete thought. These are also called
independent clauses, meaning they can stand on their
own.
• Compound sentences are two or more complete
sentences (independent clauses) joined by a comma
and a conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).
• Complex sentences are sentences that contain an
independent clause and a dependent clause, which is
a phrase that can’t stand on its own.
Active Voice
• The subject does the action in the sentence.
• The noun that would be the object of the
action in the sentence appears as the subject
of the sentence.
Parallel Structure
• verbs in a series should maintain the same verb tense
throughout
• if a word is stated in the form of a noun, the other related
word in the sentence should also be stated as a noun
• using the same word or phrase throughout a sentence
Misplaced Modifiers
• A word or phrase placed far away from the word it
describes.
• Misplaced: I found a black and yellow kid’s jacket.
• Correct: I found a kid’s black and yellow jacket.
