Formation
Affirmative: subject + auxiliary verb (have/has) + verb
participle
Example: You have seen that film many times
 Negative: subject + auxiliary verb in negative (have not/ has
not) +verb participle
Example: You have not seen that film many times
 Interrogative: auxiliary verb (have/has) + subject + verb
participle
Example: Have you seen that film many times?

Notes



We only use “has” in the third person singular.
The auxiliary verb in negative “have not or has not” can
become haven 't or hasn' t.
The regular verbs participle finish with –ed.
Uses
An action that began in the past and continues until the present.
Example: I have lived in London for two years.
 An action that took place at an undetermined time in the past and
has importance in the present.
Example: I have already had dinner


The preposition for indicates the time that the action has lasted and
since when it was started.
Examples: I have taken pictures of famous actors for two years.
The book has been famous since the film had its premiere.
Time expressions
Sometimes, we want to limit the time we are looking in for an
experience. We can do this with expressions such as: in the last
week, in the last year, this week, this month, so far, up to now,
etc.
Examples:
- Have you been to Mexico in the last year?
- I have seen that movie six times in the last month
- She has worked for three different companies so far.

The examples below show the placement for grammar adverbs
such as: always, only, never, ever, still, just, etc.
Examples:
- You have only seen that film once
- The plane has just taken off.

