 Need + passive infinitives: I need to be told
the truth.
 Need + gerunds: The house needs painting.
 A possessive to modify a gerund: Mr. Lee
complained about our coming to class late.
(formal)
 Mr. Lee complained about us coming to
class late (informal)

 Verbs of perception + gerunds: I saw my
friend running down the street = I saw my
friend while she was running down the
street.
 Verbs of perception + the simple form: I
saw my friend run down the street.
 Causative Verbs: Make + the simple form -> Mrs. Lee made her son clean his room.

 Have + the simple form: I had the plumber
repair the leak.
 Get + an infinitive: The students got the
teacher to dismiss class early.
 Special expressions + the -ing form of a
verb: have fun + -ing, have a good time + ing, have trouble + -ing, have trouble + -ing
