Myself
Yourself
Herself, himself, itself
Ourselves, yourselves, themselves
IMPORTANT HINT:
• hisself
• theirselves
• ARE NOT WORDS!!!
Problem pronouns: How do you
know if they’re reflexive or
intensive?
• A reflexive pronoun refers to the subject
and directs the action of the verb back to
the subject.
• Reflexive pronouns ARE necessary to the
meaning of the sentence. Without them
the sentence does NOT make sense.
• The teacher convinced herself that the
class was behaving.
• If you take out the pronoun, the sentence
does not make sense, so it is a reflexive
pronoun.
• An intensive pronoun emphasizes a noun
or pronoun within the same sentence.
• Intensive pronouns are NOT necessary to
the meaning of the sentence. If you take
them out, the sentence still makes sense.
• I myself have no idea what you’re talking
about!
• If you take out the intensive pronoun, the
sentence still makes sense and does not
change meaning.
