Past-tense verbs tell about
actions that happened before
now.
walk

jump
jumped
crawl crawled
To tell about the past, add –ed
to most verbs.
play played
yell
yelled
clean cleaned
wash washed
If the verb ends in a single
consonant, (cvc) double the
consonant and add –ed.
hop
hopped
dip
dipped
pat
patted
mop mopped
If the verb ends in a silent e,
drop the e and add –ed.
like
liked
bake baked
rake raked
Tell which verb shows action in the
past.
A snake (cross, crossed) our path.
crossed
Mom (rock, rocked) the baby.
