Tips for Breakfast Success!
•
•
•
•
•
Involve your teen. Including them in planning, shopping for and preparing
breakfast may help increase their breakfast eating. Let your teen choose
between different healthy options.
Include food from at least 3 of the 4 food groups. The four food groups of
Canada’s Food Guide are Vegetables and Fruit, Grain Products, Milk &
Alternatives, and Meat & Alternatives. Including food from each food group
helps to make sure your son or daughter gets all the nutrients they need.
Be creative. Breakfast choices can be “traditional” and include items like
cereal, toast, fruit, milk and/or 100% juice. But why not try something different,
like cold or reheated leftovers (cold homemade pizza, pasta, sandwiches,
cheese & crackers).
Be a role model. Be sure to eat breakfast yourself and enjoy breakfast with
your teen as much as possible.
Always eat something. Having a piece of fruit and taking a snack for later is
better than nothing!
