Introduction
One of the most frightening
and destructive
phenomena of nature is a
severe earthquake and its
terrible aftereffects. An
earthquake is a sudden
movement of the Earth,
caused by the abrupt
release of strain that has
accumulated over a long
time.
How Earthquakes occur
An earthquake is the vibration,
sometimes violent, of the
Earth's surface that follows a
release of energy in the Earth's
crust. This energy can be
generated by a sudden
dislocation of segments of the
crust, by a volcanic eruption, or
event by manmade explosions.
Most destructive quakes,
however, are caused by
dislocations of the crust.
Where Earthquakes occur
Most earthquakes occur
at the boundaries
where the plates meet.
In fact, the locations
of earthquakes and the
kinds of ruptures they
produce help scientists
define the plate
boundaries.
How likely is that Peru will
experience an Earthquake
There have been many
earthquakes in Peru.
The first one we
remember is the one in
1966. It is very likely
for earthquakes to
occur in Peru.
Effect on people’s lives
People may suffer the
concecuences of living
near earthquakes and
volcanoes.
Lava may kill people and
earthquakes too. That’s wy
people that live near
volcanoes and
eaethquakes may prevent
disasters. For example:
Evacuating
Prevention of disasters
People may prevent
disasters and deaths in
an earthquake or
volcanoe eruption.
People may make a
plan to evacuate in
case of earthquakes or
volcanoes. Animals
and properties ma also
be damaged.
